Richard Thompson
Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter-musician Richard Thompson received the BBC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. He was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 20 Guitarists of All Time for his virtuosity in acoustic and electric guitar playing. Robert Plant, R.E.M., Elvis Costello, Los Lobos, David Byrne, Del McCoury, Bonnie Raitt, and other top artists have recorded his work. Consistently extolled as a dazzling live performer, Thompson received a GRAMMY nomination in 2011 for his live-tour CD, "Dream Attic".
From his teenage years as a founding member of the pioneering British band Fairport Convention, through the decadelong partnership of the folk-rock duo Richard and Linda Thompson, to over twenty-five years as a solo artist, Richard Thompson has accumulated a massive body of work that includes forty albums and numerous film soundtracks (including Werner Herzog’s documentary, Grizzly Man). Richard Thompson has earned many of the industry’s most coveted awards including the MOJO Les Paul Award, the Orville H. Gibson Award (as best acoustic guitarist), and an Ivor Novello Award (for songwriting). His genre-defying mastery of both acoustic and electric guitars, along with his dizzying energy and onstage wit, continue to earn Thompson generations of new fans and a place as one of the most distinctive and iconoclastic virtuosos in rock history.
