Dobet Gnahoré has astounded audiences with her thrilling stage presence, appealing melodies, and powerful singing. Gnahoré’s striking new album, Na Dre, moves from delicate ballads to upbeat African grooves and serves as a resounding introduction to this voice of the future.
A singer, dancer, and percussionist from the Ivory Coast, Dobet inherited the force of the Bété people’s tradition from her father, Boni Gnahoré, a master percussionist who plays with the Abidjan-based Ki-Yi Mbock Company. Dobet sings in seven different African languages, including Bété, Fon, Baoule, Lingala, Malinke, Mina, and Bambara, thereby reproducing the Pan-African tradition of the Ki-Yi Mbock group.
